He has warned US business leaders to brace themselves to defend against Russian cyber attacks. Biden has clearly said in his statement that “If you have not already done so, I urge our private sector partners to harden your cyber defenses immediately because it’s part of their playbook”.
Joe Biden also said that the national interest is at stake, where he is explicitly suggesting to American business leaders that it is “a patriotic obligation to invest as much as you can to make sure – and we will help you – that you have built up your technical ability to deal with cyber attacks.”
Russia may conduct malicious cyber activity against US companies and critical infrastructure. Therefore, it is important to ensure that US cybersecurity is risk-free and that we are doing the best we can to protect our Nation’s Cyber Security.
“Evolving Intelligence” has increased cyber threat
It’s not that the president suggested all this in a Monday release. But the president’s administration has been warning the nation for months about the potential for cyberattacks by Russia. And as a reaction to the recent economic sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, the president’s statement suggests that “Evolving Intelligence” has increased the cyber threat.
However the details of that intelligence are still unclear, Deputy National Security Adviser Anne Neuberger said during Monday’s White House briefing that Russia was conducting “preparatory activity” for cyberattacks. which may include scanning websites and hunting for software vulnerabilities.
Lock the digital doors – The President said
Biden also said in his statement that our administration will use every necessary tool and respond to cyberattacks by building a strong infrastructure. But he also acknowledged that the federal government alone will not be able to defend itself against this threat.” He said this because most of America’s critical infrastructure is owned and operated by the private sector.
